American Institute of Architects College of Fellows Inaugurates Lenore M. Lucey, FAIA, as Chancellor

AIA Fellowship Recognizes Significant Contributions to Profession of Architecture and Society

Washington, D.C. – December 20, 2016 – Lenore M. Lucey, FAIA, NCARB, has begun her new role as the 55th Chancellor of the College of Fellows for the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She was inaugurated at a dinner on December 8, 2016 in the Capitol Visitors Center Atrium in Washington, D.C. The members of the College of Fellows elected Lucey, only the 4th woman to serve as Chancellor, citing her leadership and outstanding contributions to the architecture profession and the AIA. Lucey most recently served for over fourteen years as the CEO of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), the profession’s examination and regulatory body. The function of the College of Fellows is to promote the purposes of the AIA and to advance the profession of architecture, as well as providing service to society.

“I hope to work to continue to make the College of Fellows an increasingly inclusive body that is representative of the rich diversity of the society architects serve,” said Lucey in her inaugural remarks.

Citing the College’s member determination of “A Passion for Doing More,” Lucey will look to help the College of Fellows accomplish three goals: messaging to increase the visibility of the College to the profession and the public, financial improvement, and mentoring enhancement.

With a lifetime of alternate careers in architecture, Lucey has covered the full spectrum of the profession, designing buildings from the ground up in private practice, as a member of the team designing electronic banking for Citibank, overseeing the construction of two award winning buildings for the American Broadcasting Companies, and as the chief executive of both the AIA New York Chapter (AIANYC) and NCARB.  She has held numerous appointed positions in the AIA including on the Boards of the AIANYC and AIA New York State, and longtime service with the AIA on the Architects in Industry Committee and the Committee on Design.  She was a founding Board member of the AIANYC Alliance of Women in Architecture and served as editor of its newsletter. Lucey received Alumni Achievement Award from Pratt Institute, the NCARB Presidential Medal for Distinguished Service (twice), and the AIANYC President’s Citation, among others.

Lucey earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute, is licensed in New York and the District of Columbia, and certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
