Autodesk University Brings The Future Of Making Things To You

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—December 16, 2016— Autodesk University (AU), the annual flagship user event for Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK) announced that they have added 650+ new classes to their online learning hub from this year’s event.

AU 2016 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 15-17, with 10,000 designers, engineers and makers learning about the latest Autodesk products and exploring emerging trends and technologies that will shape the future of making things and the future of work. Expert-led classes including industry talks, hands-on labs, roundtables and more, with hundreds of hours of media to support them, are available now on the company’s website and online learning hub, au.autodesk.com. Resources including data sets, handouts and presentations are also available for download at no cost.

This year’s conference theme was The Future of Making Things, with focus on a number of emerging trends in the design, engineering, architecture and media industries, including three emerging trends Autodesk believes will have the biggest impact on the future of work: generative design, immersive design and robotic fabrication. Generative design refers to the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the design process. Immersive design involves the use of virtual reality and augmented reality in the design process. Robotic fabrication offers advances in additive manufacturing techniques including 3D printing, which are changing the face of product design and manufacturing.

Event keynotes featured top Autodesk executives sharing their thoughts on where the industries that Autodesk serves—product design and manufacturing; architecture, engineering and construction; and media and entertainment—are headed. Leading Autodesk customers shared case studies and projects showcasing the many ways individuals and organizations are using Autodesk products to solve large and important problems, change lives and make the world a better place.

Autodesk President and CEO Carl Bass spoke about the importance of ongoing learning and embracing new ideas in order to disrupt norms and succeed. Autodesk CTO Jeff Kowalski called this “the imagination age” in which CAD is evolving to include “computer as designer.” Autodesk SVP of Products Amar Hanspal focused on the global shift towards cloud computing and connected systems.

The Autodesk Fusion 360 cloud platform is emerging as the 3D CAD tool of the future, enabling easier collaboration among teams and enhancing design and fabrication workflows from start to finish. Shotgun is the company’s media and entertainment production pipeline cloud platform. And BIM 360 is the equivalent platform for Building Information Modeling (BIM) used in architecture, engineering, and construction. All three products enhance collaboration and connectedness across a wide range of projects in each industry.

Autodesk SVP of Business Strategy & Marketing and CMO, Andrew Anagnost, joined on stage by comedian Rob Corddry, concluded the event by sharing his perspective on driving change through innovation. Anagnost challenged attendees to go home and take an “irreversible step,” big or small, to drive change in their own work and bring them closer to the future.
