URISA Announces 2017 GIS Professional Educational Calendar

Des Plaines, IL, September 20, 2016 -- With one more major event still to take place in Toronto this year ( GIS-Pro 2016: URISA's 54th Annual Conference, October 31-November 3, 2016), URISA is pleased to announce a number of programs for 2017.

The education begins March 6-9, 2017 in Chattanooga, Tennessee for the 21st GIS/CAMA Technologies Conference, presented in partnership with the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). This conference assists assessment and appraisal professionals in visualizing how they can work more effectively through the use of technology. This conference explores the important role that the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) systems plays in providing access to data and analysis of information for better decision making within a jurisdiction. The conference features workshops, keynote addresses, ample breakout sessions and a busy exhibition.

URISA's GIS Leadership Academy will take place in Providence, Rhode Island during the week of July 24-28, 2017. (Note that a second ULA will likely be scheduled in the Spring of 2017 in southern California.)

The ULA - Five Days of Targeted GIS Leadership Training...Taught by GIS Leaders - teaches the necessary skills to create effective teams, act with defined purpose, and align organizations on the path to success.

Participants learn:

  • GIS leadership and management techniques
  • Strategic planning
  • Successful team development
  • Organizational capacity building and sustainability strategies (ROI, innovative funding ideas)
  • Program investment and justification
  • Change management
  • Situation assessment and organizational performance evaluation
  • Ethics and professional challenges
  • Problem solving

URISA, the National Center for Transit Research, and the Transportation Research Board are pleased to announce the 10th National GIS in Transit Conference, taking place September 6-8, 2017 in Washington, DC. The conference will provide a breadth of GIS experiences to showcase how agencies of all sizes and budgets are managing GIS data and improving transit service and, ultimately, customer service. The conference is developed through abstract submissions and will feature workshops, keynote addresses, breakout sessions and an exhibition.

GIS-Pro 2017: URISA's 55th Annual Conference will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, October 23-26, 2017. The Call for Presentations will be announced at the conclusion of GIS-Pro 2016 in Toronto.
