Foreign Language for Infants and Children? There’s an App for That

Learning a foreign language just got easier with the Early Lingo app for children aged 0-9 years. The popular DVD series and learning system teaching six languages is now available online so children anywhere in the world can play and discover.

LOS ANGELES — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 31, 2016 — Early Lingo, Inc., the award-winning foreign language learning system for infants and children aged 0-9 years, released its next generation language-learning app in iTunes. The teaching application is complete with interactive games and lessons, original videos, workbooks and flashcards making it fun to learn Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, German and English.

Studies show children who are bilingual or multilingual perform better in other academic areas. These children statistically earn higher SAT scores, show significant gains in IQ performance, and exhibit advanced mental flexibility. The new app helps children learn more than 450 foreign words and phrases through interactive games and lessons featuring native speakers, high definition animation and a written test feature unique to Early Lingo.

“Children today are more tech savvy than previous generations,” said Caryn Antonini, Founder and CEO of Early Lingo and graduate of the Georgetown University School of Languages and Linguistics. “The Early Lingo online app is not just a game, it is a comprehensive next generation learning system in foreign language and its relationship to cognitive development.”

In addition to the new app for families with young children, Early Lingo works with schools and communities to raise awareness about the importance of learning foreign languages. The company recently partnered with the Los Angeles Police Activities League (PAL) and area chapters of the youth crime prevention program to teach Chinese and French to children in the community. Gaining even basic foreign language skills gives low income, underprivileged youth the opportunity to develop communication, active listening and cultural competency skills—valuable for the 21st century.

“Our mission from day one has been to enrich and enhance the lives of children and their families,” Antonini said. “There is no limit to the number of languages a child can learn and I am proud we can now offer young learners around the world all of the language resources they need through our innovative new app.”
