Toshiba’s ZD6000 Dual Port NVMe SSD Powers DDN IME14K All-Flash Application and File System Accelerator Software

DataDirect Networks achieves volume production with Toshiba ZD6000 dual port NVMe SSD

IRVINE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 3, 2016Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC), a committed technology leader, today announced that its ZD6000-series Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) solid state drives (SSD) now feature the quality, capacity, and reliability necessary to enable the latest application acceleration and burst buffer technologies of DataDirect Networks (DDN). This innovative collaboration leveraging the ZD6000 drives within the DDN IME14K™ appliance delivers game changing performance, offers critical redundancy, and a low latency profile at the application layer, providing impressive compute ROI.

DDN achieved volume production with the Toshiba solution powering DDN’s recently announced IME14K all-flash application and file system accelerator. DDN takes advantage of the ZD6000-series’ robust feature-set and its high performance, increasing input/output (I/O) performance compared to prior models and enabling the active dual port capability that safeguards against a single point of failure. The Toshiba ZD6000 dual port NVMe SSDs deliver high availability and efficiency to minimize I/O bottlenecks and accelerate applications and file systems while providing low latency. DDN’s IME14K scales up to 48 NVMe SSDs utilizing ZD6000’s low capacity (800GB1) to high capacity (7680GB) SSDs, offering customers a wide variety of performance and capacity SKUs.

“Toshiba is proud of the collaboration that has resulted in DDN’s latest all-flash appliance,” said Jeremy Werner, marketing vice president for SSD and Storage Solutions at Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. “DDN’s IME14K all-flash application and file system acceleration appliance is an innovative and differentiated solution, and Toshiba is excited to see how this solution takes great advantage of the reduced latency profile and enterprise-level reliability delivered by our dual port NVMe ZD6000 SSDs.”

Brett Weber, vice president and CTO at DDN, added, “Toshiba is on the forefront of storage technologies with reliable storage solutions that feature high capacity, high availability, and excellent performance. We are excited to leverage the cutting-edge technology found in Toshiba’s ZD6000 dual port NVMe to help enable IME14K to deliver the application acceleration and reliability expected by the most data-intensive users on the globe.”

1 Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
