Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship Recipient Selected

Washington, D.C. – July 15, 2016 – The Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship, established to assist and honor female architecture students, will be awarded to Naureen Mazumdar, a second year graduate student at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.  Mazumdar will receive $10,000 toward tuition. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage the continuing education of women in their pursuit of a career in architecture.

The Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship, named after Sho-Ping Chin, FAIA, a long-time principal at the architecture firm Payette, was an impactful mentor and instilled within her teams a sense of camaraderie and commitment to design. As a founder of the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit, held biennially, Chin was instrumental in defining the national discourse for Women in Design.

The scholarship committee, made up of dedicated teaching professional and practitioners of the profession received over 80 applications, but was most impressed by the academic and personal achievements of Mazumar:

Naureen Mazumar is a second year graduate student attending the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where she plans on obtaining a master’s degree in architecture.  Born and raised in Bangladesh, Mazumar discovered her passion for architecture while pursuing her undergraduate’s degree at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Coupled with her outstanding academic record, Mazumar’s commitment to improving the well-being of communities through the power of design allowed her to stand out among such a large group of qualified applicants.
