FAIRFAX, Va., March 28, 2016 — (PRNewswire) — General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), was awarded a contract to develop, deploy and provide maintenance and support for a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) solution for Fairfax County, Virginia. The solution supports the five primary and secondary answering points in the County and enables Fairfax County to accept and route emergency 9-1-1 information from a variety of sources and provides much improved capabilities for cooperative processing and resource sharing between the five locations as well.Under this contract, General Dynamics will replace the Fairfax County's legacy emergency call-handling system with a secure, IP-based NG9-1-1 system that permits emergency service requests from existing public networks through new and emerging modes of communication and devices. The system will provide additional mapping capabilities using Geographic Information Systems data for caller locations and integrate incoming 9-1-1 texts and 9-1-1 voice calls under one unified platform.
