NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Business Wire – March 7, 2016) – MSC Software Corporation today announced that the R&D department at Riba Composites introduced MSC Nastran Nonlinear (Sol400) and MSC Apex to broaden the range of analysis capabilities for composite components. Riba Composites, Italian leader in the design and manufacture of structural parts and components in advanced composite materials, was already using MSC Nastran to support the co-design process of structural and non-structural components made up of advanced composites, based on their customers’ unique and specific requirements.
Riba Composites will now be able to execute nonlinear analysis in addition to linear analysis, and modal analysis. This will allow them to take into consideration large strains and deformations, nonlinear buckling, predict composites failure, and study the behavior after failure and buckling with Progressive Failure Analysis.
MSC Apex will help Riba to create FEM models starting from CAD. Thanks to easy to use geometry defeaturing and modeling capabilities, it is possible to remove thousands of geometric features in order to obtain a high quality mesh. The “Midsurface” tools help users to extract and stitch midsurfaces, as well as assign thickness and offset in a few clicks. In addition, the generative behavior of MSC Apex allows users to modify models without having to rebuild a new mesh.
Thanks to these new simulation capabilities, Riba Composites will be able to study and design a variety of components, and manage even the most innovative analysis for “state of the art” composites design.
