FabPod(TM) is a strategic product aiming to reach STEM education market, where President Obama supports with 10 billion dollar budget. There is a high demand for low cost, user friendly, safe and durable 3D printers for education market. Bonsai Lab collaborated with top tier Japanese industrial machinery parts suppliers, such as THK, Minebea, and Mitsuboshi Belt. The software is developed in collaboration with Interactive Laboratories which has high reputation in game industry.

1) Talking 3D Printer

Soon, digital fabrication and smart house movement will include 3D printer. To free up users from cumbersome operations, FabPod(TM) features “voice navigation” for the first time in 3D printers.

2) Integration of Japanese game industry’s expertise

FabPodUI, a 3D printing software, is developed using IBL (Image Based Lighting), a CG technology, for the first time in the world. With IBL, FabPodUI can perform realistic rendering and users can experience 3D printing in virtual reality world.
The new, integrated interface makes operations easy enough for beginners, and allows detailed settings for advanced users.

The FabPodUI software is developed on Unity, a globally recognized game development platform, which will allow quick adoption of new 3D printing trends. In addition, a speedy deployment of full speck development is possible. In the future, FabPodUI plans to integrate AR and VR. Integration with Microsoft HoloLens and VR’ Oculus Rift will make 3D printer a key component of the new smart house system.

At CES, Bonsai Lab also exhibits a 3D scanner, a concept product with original high function visual data analysis. Bonsai Lab is committed to make 3D printing UI/UX smarter, by Japan based technologies.

FabPod(TM) is expected to ship in spring 2016. The software will be available for free and compatible with other 3D printers.
