The DAVE School Wins Four Awards in the Accolade Global Film Competition

Previous winners of the prestigious international competition have gone on to win Emmys and Oscars.

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 23, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  The Digital Animation and Visual Effects (DAVE) School won four awards in the Accolade Global Film Competition, an avant-garde, worldwide competition that discovers and honors high-quality shorts and new media.

In winning the Accolades, The DAVE School, located on the backlot of Universal Studios, joins the ranks with many other industry leaders who have been previous winners. Among them: the Oscar winning film The Lady in Number Six by Malcolm Clarke, the Director of the Disney Animation Studios, Dave Bossert, for the short documentary The Tunes Behind The Toons and Hollywood veteran Ron Howard for When You Find Me.  Also in this prestigious list, High Wire Films Australia for its popular ABC TV series Twentysomething.

"Receiving four Accolades validates the DAVE School's commitment to creativity, high industry standards and new technology," said Dave Penn, the DAVE School's Executive Director. "Our hands-on production environment rivals that of some of the best professional film studios in the nation. We are developing film professionals who are ready to hit the ground running."

And the DAVE School's winners of the Accolade Global Film Competition are:

  • The DAVE School Class of June 2015 and Instructor/Director Tom Bremer: Award of Merit for the animated film Runners - Part 2. The film is based on Sean Wang's comic book series Runners. In it, the crew of the Brimia is chased by rogue bounty hunters trying to cash in on the price set for their heads. It is voiced by actor John DiMaggio. The executive producers are Jeff and Anne Scheetz, and Dave Penn.
  • The DAVE School Class of December 2014 and Instructor/Director Tom Bremer: Award of Merit for The Cursed Actor, a story by Emmy Award winner Bremer about a YouTuber who discovers an obscure actor in film footage whose presence seems eerily connected to the death of fellow cast members. The executive producers are Jeff and Anne Scheetz.
  • The DAVE School Class of September 2015 and Instructor/Director Matt Killian: Award of Merit for the animated film The Thief of Always - Book Trailer, based on the Clive Barker's novel by the same name about a Holiday House where Halloween and Christmas are celebrated every day, year-round. Such indulgency turns out to be almost lethal. The film is voiced by actor John DiMaggio. The executive producer is Dave Penn.
  • The DAVE School Class of September 2014 and Instructor/Director Matt Killian: Award of Merit for The Brothers Brimm, a funny story about two demons who escape hell and try to make it to heaven for redemption. The story is by Christian 'Patch' Patchell and it is voiced by actor John DiMaggio. The executive producers are Jeff and Anne Scheetz.

The Accolade Global Film Competition recognizes film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity. Entries are judged by professionals in the film and television industry.

"The Accolade is not an easy award to win," said Rick Prickett, who chairs the competition.  "Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies as well as from remarkable new talent. The Accolade sets the standard for craft and creativity in this industry."
