Toshiba Introduces New Series of Power Mux, High Voltage Load Switch ICs

Suited to Devices Conforming to USB Type-CSpecifications (for USB PD)

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —   Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today announced the launch of a new series of 28 V load switch IC products. Appropriate for devices conforming to USB Type-C™[1]specifications (for USB PD[2]), the TCK30x series incorporates protection features that include over voltage lock out (OVLO[3]) and reverse current blocking functions. The new ICs support an auto-power source select mode, without the need for external control, and offer a daisy chain connection (Fixed Input Priority). These features enable the TCK30x series to be utilized as switching solutions for large capacity power supplies.

Toshiba Corporation logo

"The USB Type-C standard is rapidly gaining support, as it enables a robust, small form factor,  single cable solution that works for all devices," noted Talayeh Saderi, business development manager for TAEC. "Our new TCK30x series supports this new standard, and has been designed with safety in mind – it automatically isolates a system from a faulty source or load."

Applications include devices conforming to USB Type-C specification (USB PD); devices requiring 5 to 12 V power sources such as quick charging and wireless power supplies; mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, wearables, devices utilizing USB, and other battery-driven devices.
