Innovasic and OmniPhy Announce Collaboration on Automotive Ethernet Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif. & ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-- OmniPhy, the leading supplier of Ethernet PHY intellectual property (IP) for the consumer, automotive, and industrial markets, and Innovasic, the leader in deterministic Ethernet silicon solutions, have announced a partnership that provides a clear pathway to next generation Automotive Ethernet SoC solutions. By combining the OmniPhy physical layer IP with Innovasic’s programmable 2-port switch IP, a complete communication interface is available to support the emerging IEEE 802.1 TSN (Time Sensitive Networking) Ethernet standards and 802.3 100Base-T1 physical layer. By integrating Innovasic and OmniPhy IP with an appropriate CPU core, it is possible to create SoC solutions that address new automotive Ethernet network designs.

The OmniPhy IP emphasizes unique power saving and reliability diagnostic modes which are critical for automotive applications. The Innovasic IP emphasizes the necessary layer 2 hardware support which is critical for the new deterministic features being adopted by IEEE 802.1. “By combining these IP blocks, we are enabling a complete SoC solution to be developed with full support for the new Ethernet standards. Adoption of Ethernet as the core network for future automobiles carries very significant benefits including higher bandwidths, seamless connectivity and simpler wiring harness design,” said Dr. Claude Gauthier, CTO of OmniPhy.

The OmniPhy / Innovasic IP combination enables connectivity in star, redundant star, line and ring topologies. This flexibility enables ECU, DCU and end devices to be connected in almost any network design including fully redundant designs with minimal wiring harness requirements. The programmable nature of the Innovasic switch IP allows full compliance with the IEEE 802.1 TSN standards as they evolve by simply reprogramming the device to accommodate changes in the standard. This unique combination of IP will provide a fast time to market advantage to customers.
