Harriman and The Cecil Group Merge to Form a More Comprehensive Integrated Full-Service Practice

With an extended geographic reach and increased service offerings, the combined firm offers clients stronger, more nimble, and better positioned resources

PORTLAND, Maine and BOSTON – October 15, 2015 – Harriman, an architecture and engineering firm based in Maine, and The Cecil Group, an urban design, planning, architecture, and landscape architecture firm based in Boston, announced today they have merged to provide clients with a more comprehensive integrated, full-service practice in architecture, engineering, urban design, planning and landscape architecture. The partnership is dedicated to excellent multi-disciplinary client service that directly applies the talents and experiences of firm principals and creative professionals.

Harriman and The Cecil Group are both well-established and successful firms with a legacy of providing clients with thoughtful solutions through distinctive design and innovative strategies. The combined entity is a stronger, more flexible and robust firm dedicated to enhancing the built and natural environment.

“We have collaborated on projects with The Cecil Group since 2009, and our mutually successful working relationship led us naturally to this decision,” said Clifton Greim, P.E., president and CEO of Harriman. “With similar cultural and strategic approaches interwoven with common business goals, an expansion aimed at creating a broader, more expansive firm with a group of people we really admire resonated with us. We’re very excited to continue building on these traditions together.”

Throughout the years, the two firms have collaborated on many projects including campus master plans at Bates College, Thomas College, and Maine Maritime Academy. During that time, it became evident the firms shared a similar culture, approach to project work, and a healthy respect for clients, the environment, and staff.

“Both firms have been committed to composing sites, architecture, and engineering as seamless, complete environments, bringing higher value to our clients and our communities,” said Steven G. Cecil, AIA, ASLA, founding principal of The Cecil Group.  “We have expanded our team to help realize the full potential of our multi-disciplinary perspectives.”

With offices in Auburn and Portland, Maine; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Boston, Massachusetts; the combined firm will expand on an existing studio organization broadening expertise in a variety of project types for clients, ranging from schools, health care, higher education, commercial, mixed-use development, government facilities, municipal plans, and more.
