Oct 13, 2015 -- Russian hi-tech engineering company Computational Mechanics Laboratory, LLC ( CompMechLab®) and DeskArtes Oy, the Finnish developer of DeskArtes software, the leader in the areas of geometric models processing and preparation for 3D printing, signed a distributors agreement on September 1st, 2015. Due to this agreement, CompMechLab® became an official reseller of DeskArtes software in the territory of Russia, CIS and Baltic States.
Hi-tech engineering company CompMechLab® has been fulfilling R&D work for the leading Russian and international enterprises and research centers for many years. CompMechLab® creates and implements comprehensive technological chains of a new generation based on multi-disciplinary, multi-scale and multi-stage suprasectoral Computer-Aided Engineering.
One of the main CompMechLab® activities is transfer of the best computer-aided technologies, optimization and additive manufacturing technologies into the local market. Concluding the agreement with the Finnish vendor DeskArtes Oy is the acknowledgement of CompMechLab® as the leading company among Russian engineering enterprises participating in creation of globally competitive products.
DeskArtes Oy was founded in 1989 as a continuation on research projects started in 1985 at the Helsinki University of Technology (today named Aalto University). SAAB Valmet (a car manufacturer in Finland) and Arabia (a Finnish tableware manufacturer) made a request to the research group to develop industrial design software that would put special emphasis on aesthetic design features rather than traditional engineering features. The group was successful in its efforts and developed later in a private company, which software packages for additive manufacturing, simulation and data exchange markets offer nowadays the widest range of high-end functionality for data repair and processing of standard format data files.
DeskArtes software is a modular system, which enables the users to choose only those software products which they need for the solution of certain problems arising at their manufacturing lines. The following modules are included into DeskArtes package:
3Data Expert® is a basis of the software and a professional tool for preparing 3D models for Additive Manufacturing and Simulation applications. There are several commands for manipulation of both 3D surface models and 3D faceted models. These commands include surface triangulation, STL verification and repair, STL offsetting, splitting, connecting, decimation, smoothing and Boolean as well as STL coloring and texturing. Basic supports can be generated for both Stereolithography and metal processes. 3Data Expert® offers effective and user friendly repair tools for triangulated models. Models from different CAD systems can be effectively repaired using both automatic and manual commands for Additive Manufacturing. Splitting and connection of large models can be done easily, as well as the user can create 3D Text on surfaces and join geometries.
3D CAD Import Translators is an add-on submodule for 3Data Expert®, which enables one to triangulate and auto-repair standard and native 3D CAD models for 3D Color Printing, Additive Manufacturing and Simulation applications. Import translators include STEP, CATIA 4/5/6, CATIA CGR, NX Unigraphics, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, JT and Creo/ProE formats.
3Data Expert Lite is a module which represents the core functionality of 3Data Expert® for 3D printing and additive manufacturing. It enables designers and engineers to repair faceted 3D models, split large sized models to fit into limited workspace and add connectors for accurate joining of the parts after the build. Also, the module helps the users to add 3D Text tags for markups and correct part identification after the manufacturing.
Sim Expert is a dedicated tool for preparing 3D models for Simulation applications with triangle count reduction and triangle aspect ratio improvement functions. Sim Expert fast triangle decimation functions allows to prepare 3D faceted files for any commercial CAE system available, as well as effectively remove thin triangles from the faceted data. Convert surface models into STL data is also available in Sim Expert.
Dimensions Expert is a simple, financially beneficial and user friendly module for STL repair and splitting for machines with a smaller build area. Dimensions Expert gives users the ability to automatically repair and to split the STL data into separate pieces and accurately combine them after the build, what is typically achieved with software codes five to ten times more expensive than this tool.
Free View Expert is an entry level tool designed for viewing, verifying, dimensioning and transferring 3D geometry information. Free View Expert allows the users to input triangle models, create consistent topology, check errors, repair normals and output STL data for 3D printing without any costs.
Design Expert is a module which is developed for free form modeling for jewelry, ceramics and conceptual design. Design Expert has been specially developed as a design tool for industrial designers. Design Expert performs all the tasks required for designing, styling and rendering of industrial products.
General benefits and advantages of DeskArtes are such as a user friendly and easy-to-use interface, wide range of capabilities for complicated geometry processing considering further manufacturing of a part using 3D-printing approach, a capability of importing any CAD format files, as well as a possibility to be applied in any industrial sectors. Very reasonable price of the software is also to be mentioned.
The vendor also is planning to implement an opportunity to generate lattice structures, which is the basis of the majority of bionic/organic design structures and are widely used in medical applications, i.e. when creating prosthetic devices, as well as in many other industries. Noteworthy is the fact that DeskArtes software is applicable for both polymer parts and metal parts processing.
DeskArtes Oy customers are such world-wide known brands as Daimler, Rolls-Royce, Magna, Georg Fischer GmbH, Cristal d'Arques Paris, Römheld & Moelle, etc.
"We are happy to start our collaboration with DeskArtes company, one of the world leaders in the area of 3D printing software, and we believe that DeskArtes emergence in the Russian market is a large steps towards further development of advanced manufacturing technologies in Russia, CIS and Baltic States," - Anton Aleksashkin, CAE Software Distribution Department Director, CompMechLab®, said after having met Mr. Ismo Mäkelä, DeskArtes Oy Managing Director, in Helsinki, where the parties reached an agreement for further cooperation.
"Many industrial companies and engineering centers in Russia and Baltic States begin to actively adopt 3D printing, manufacturing stiff and lightweight structures, which complicated geometry can be described as "being outside the realm of General designer intuition" and is defined by topology optimization methods, which are implemented in such innovative software as solidThinking Inspire and HyperWorks OptiStruct®. DeskArtes modules will become both excellent standalone products and add-ons for computer-aided optimization technologies, enabling designers and engineers to process any model for additive manufacturing by repairing, smoothing and slicing parts, as well as will play a role of an efficient tool of hybrid 3D modeling for industrial designers."
