Silicon Space Technology (SST) is now VORAGO Technologies

New name and visual identity reflect strategy expansion for Austin-based fabless semiconductor company

AUSTIN, Texas — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 25, 2015 — VORAGO Technologies, previously Silicon Space Technology, unveiled its new name, brand identity and tagline “Opening up new possibilities” as part of the strategic expansion of its business and product direction. This rebranding reflects the company’s addition of extreme temperature-hardened solutions to its groundbreaking and patented radiation-hardened semiconductor technology. By overcoming both radiation and extreme heat constraints, VORAGO Technologies helps customers deliver products and components that achieve unprecedented levels of longevity and reliability, wherever the Internet of Things takes them.

“What could you build if heat and radiation were not issues? That’s our challenge to designers and engineers,” said Bernd Lienhard, chief executive officer of VORAGO Technologies. “We’re proud of the fact that with VORAGO Technologies you can now go far beyond the traditional heat and radiation barriers for both new and existing products, without incurring huge retooling expenses. The word vorago means chasm in Latin, and it embodies our strategy – to open up a new world of possibilities in technology by breaking temperature and radiation barriers.”

VORAGO Technologies offers semiconductor products, as well as the ability to license its patented HARDSIL® technology. VORAGO’s ARM® Cortex®-Microcontrollers incorporate the HARDSIL technology which provides superior radiation and temperature barriers to ensure high-endurance performance. VORAGO’s microcontrollers are ideal for automotive, industrial, military / aerospace and networking applications which must operate reliably in temperatures of 200°C and above. With its high-endurance products, VORAGO offers customers a meaningful alternative to the costly investment they would otherwise need to make in up-screening commercial-grade products for high heat and radiation environments.

Originally developed to handle the harshest conditions in outer space, VORAGO’s HARDSIL technology can be licensed and added to new or virtually any existing design by integrating it into the standard silicon manufacturing process at leading foundries for a small cost over traditional silicon technology. Any component with HARDSIL can handle the most extreme conditions including operating beyond 200°C while providing exceptional longevity. This was most recently demonstrated during the successful testing of temperature-hardened 18Mb SRAM based on HARDSIL technology operating at 250°C for over 2,500 hours, and establishing a significant, new industry milestone.
