Creator of breakthrough 3D PDF technologies extends powerful 3D PDF visualization and interrogation to more handheld devices with new Android™ app.
August 12, 2015, Bend, OR USA – Tech Soft 3D, leading provider of software development tools and 3D PDF solutions to the engineering industry, today launches 3D PDF Reader for Android, available for free on the Google Play™ store. 3D PDF Reader allows you to use intuitive multi-touch gestures to easily rotate, pan, zoom, slice, section and interrogate 3D data embedded within a 3D PDF file. This newest release builds on previous technology, formerly available only on iPad® and iPhone®, to more closely replicate the experience of desktop 3D PDF viewing from the convenience of portable handheld devices.
3D PDF Reader for Android brings Tech Soft 3D closer to its vision of having 3D PDFs display the same way on mobile devices as they do for Adobe® Reader® on desktops. As Adobe’s chosen technology partner, Tech Soft 3D uses the same native 3D technology in 3D PDF Reader found in Adobe Reader. 3D PDF Reader is also the only mobile application with 100% format support for the recently ISO-certified PRC format, ensuring 3D content from standards-compliant 3D PDFs display with complete accuracy on mobile. This allows users to fully leverage the benefits of PRC, a highly-compressed format that can represent models as exact solids with boundary representations (B-Rep).This data-rich information can then be communicated to anyone, anywhere in the value chain across industries, workflows – and now, devices.
“As the company behind the 3D PDF format, we remain committed to ensuring that the full value of 3D PDF documents can by enjoyed by anyone, anywhere and on any device,” says Gavin Bridgeman, Tech Soft 3D VP of Products. “This release of 3D PDF Reader for Android represents the next step toward that goal.”
Much more than a simple viewer, 3D PDF Reader 1.5 for Android supports Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), views, isolating and hiding parts in an assembly, and creating complex section cuts. Files can be conveniently loaded directly from email attachments or cloud-based storage applications such as Box or Dropbox. 3D PDF Reader 1.5 can also calculate physical properties on a per part basis, recognize precise geometry in solid models, animate transitions between views, and create section views. In addition to supporting PRC and U3D file formats, it also reads STL, OBJ, PLY and HSF.
The same team that originally developed PRC and released the patents for standardization continue to carry on that tradition at Tech Soft 3D through the ongoing development of its 3D PDF technologies. Moving forward, Tech Soft 3D will make even greater strides bringing powerful 3D PDF interaction anywhere with an app that fully integrates 3D model information with 2D data and critical metadata from CAD and other systems.
