Aug 6, 2015 -- Opti-cal Survey Equipment has signed an agreement with GeoSLAM to resell ZEB1 – a hand-held laser scanner and game-changing SLAM (simultaneous localisation & mapping) survey solution to UK customers. Supporting professionals across a diverse range of industries – from Engineering and Construction, to Archaeology and Forensics – Opti-cal has a proven track record for matching specialist survey equipment to all customers’ diverse project needs.
“We are delighted to sign Opti-cal to resell GeoSLAM solutions in the UK.” commented Neil Pollock, COO GeoSLAM. “As a Fully Accredited Authorised Leica Geosystems Distributor & Service Partner, and as a channel distribution partner for FARO Technologiesand SPX Radiodetection, Opti-cal is a safe and trusted pair of hands to introduce GeoSLAM’s game-changing SLAM solutions to some of the UK’s most well-known construction and engineering firms.”
Opti-cal was founded in 2002 and has since grown at a consistent rate of more than 20% YOY; reporting annual revenues in excess of £11million. Today Opti-cal serves UK customers from six regional operations in the South West, South East, Midlands, North of England and Scotland.
“GeoSLAM’s ZEB1 is a natural addition to the survey toolkits of our customers,” enthused Jim Warner, Director, Opti-cal. “For years we have sold and serviced class-leading survey solutions from Leica Geosystems and FARO. By signing this agreement with GeoSLAM, we can extend our offerings by adding a new class-leading solution for measuring and mapping multi-level, three-dimensional environments without the need for external positioning data (such as GNSS), tripods or targets.”
The ZEB1 is the first truly mobile lightweight hand-held laser scanner which is suitable for use in a number of applications including: mining, forensics, architecture, forestry, stock piles and rapid visualisation.
With ZEB1 in hand the user can simply walk through the target survey environment while rapidly recording more than 40,000 measurement points per second without the need for external positioning data such as GNSS. The ZEB1 works best in feature-rich environments while on the move, so there is typically no need for targets and absolutely no need for a tripod.
Once the data has been collected, it can be uploaded to the GeoSLAM Cloud, where SLAM software transforms the survey measurements into a fully registered point cloud. Thereafter, the data can be downloaded (on a pay-as-you-go basis) for use inside all major CAD software.
With this finance-friendly business model, the GeoSLAM solution eliminates the need for upfront software costs and annual maintenance charges.
