Balfour Beatty Living Places Chooses Yotta Horizons for Public Realm Contracts

Jul 7, 2015 -- Balfour Beatty Living Places has appointed Yotta to implement the Horizons visualised asset management platform across a number of its UK local authority highways management contracts. Horizons is supporting Balfour Beatty Living Places to make effective, timely and informed decisions about highway assets. Already implemented on the ten-year Highways Service Partnership with Southampton City Council, Horizons is now being introduced on Balfour Beatty Living Places’ Public Realm Partnership with Herefordshire County Council. Balfour Beatty Living Places is also using Horizons to determine the levels of funding and investment required, for optimised maintenance options and to assess and manage risk.

“Horizons has been an important development in the management, planning and visualisation of highway infrastructure programmes,” says Rowan Sheppard, Strategic Asset Manager at Balfour Beatty Living Places. “Already implemented on contracts in Southampton and Herefordshire, Horizons enables prediction of future asset condition, enhancing opportunities to optimise service delivery and maximise the benefit of limited budget spending.”

“Information and data relating to highway infrastructure assets – where they are, how they perform and the optimal time to maintain, is critical to the success of public realm contracts,” adds Nick Smee, CEO of Yotta. “By working with Balfour Beatty Living Places we are contributing to an effective asset management framework which can be rolled out across other contracts.”

At Southampton, Horizons is used by Balfour Beatty Living Places to help manage highways transportation planning and asset management services. Southampton City Council also uses Yotta’s Pavement Management Software MARCHpms and data from Yotta’s Scanner surveys. Paul Paskins, Contract and Governance Manager at Southampton City Council, added, “By bringing together different data related to the same asset, Horizons allows us to see the bigger picture. This supports the partnership at all levels, from senior decision makers to engineers, and allows easy sharing of information between the service and the customer.”

Horizons software is also being introduced by Balfour Beatty Living Places on the Herefordshire Council Public Realm contract that covers highways maintenance and improvement works, street lighting, street cleansing, public rights of way, parks and open spaces. Herefordshire Council also uses Yotta’s Mayrise Street Lighting software.

Horizons is a visualised Software-as-a-Service (“SaaS”) asset management platform designed to make it easier for asset managers to visualise, manage and optimise all their asset management strategies and records in a unique and effective way using a single cloud-based solution. Since launching to market in 2012, Horizons has revolutionised asset management across a range of applications, and is now used by around 50 local authorities in addition to service partners and maintenance contractors. In 2014 Yotta launched Horizons internationally, and has already achieved successful implementations in Europe and beyond.
