Blue Marble Releases the Geographic Calculator 2015 SP1 with Powerful yet Flexible Workflow Enhancements

Hallowell, Maine – April 30, 2015 - Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce the release of the Geographic Calculator 2015 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This release features a new method for calculating Forward/Inverse distances above or below ellipsoid, support for HTDP Velocities with output coordinates, and support for EPSG History and revision dates. Blue Marble's geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

The Geographic Calculator is “The Global Coordinate Transformation tool” and is available in a 32 or 64 bit version. This highly accurate transformation software includes a comprehensive geodetic library, Land Grid tools, Seismic Survey Conversion tools, "Area of Use" tools for guiding users to make complex geodetic decisions correctly, and much more. These tools enable users to streamline their workflow and share jobs, projects, and workspaces with other users in different locations. The Geographic Calculator supports a wide range of file formats with support from the largest geodetic parameter database available anywhere.

The 2015 SP1 release features enhanced Forward/Inverse distance calculations for added accuracy; users may now calculate Forward and Inverse distances above or below ellipsoid. The Horizontal Time Dependent transformations performed in the Interactive Conversion job now have North, East, and Up velocity values available as millimeters per year, and support has been updated to HTDP v3.2.3. In addition, information has been added to datasource object definitions for EPSG defined systems; a History tab now contains a summary of EPSG changes, including the reporting authority, the report date and the close date for historic changes to the system.

“The Geographic Calculator is a geomatics toolbox for any GIS professional,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “With the release of 2015 SP1 we’ve added enhancements to make Calculator not only more powerful but also more flexible.”

Additionally, version 2015 SP1 includes support for the National Geodetic Survey GEOCON tools, used for performing three-dimensional coordinate transformations between NAD 83 (HARN) coordinates and NAD 83(NSRS2007) coordinates. Many new geodetic definitions and methods have been added to the Geographic Calculator including Geoid 12B for US, Japan Geoid Model of 2011, the NTv1 Transformation method and more.
