Delcam to host Ortho Technology Forum as part of Australasian Podiatry Conference

Delcam will host its 2015 Asian Ortho Technology Forum at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Queensland, as part of this year’s Australasian Podiatry Conference.  The Ortho Technology Forum will take place on the second day of the three-day conference that is being held between 6th and 8th May.

The event will focus on existing and emerging technologies related to the custom orthotic insoles industry and will feature presentations by leading industry speakers Professor Jim Woodburn, Clifton Bradeley and Dr Navaporn Chadchavalpanichaya.

Professor Woodburn’s presentation will define and demonstrate how the value chain has been disrupted through the development of additive manufacturing and the integration of enabling technologies such as 3D shape scanning and CAD design.  Professor Woodburn will also provide some personal insights on the benefits and limitations of 3D printing, along with a horizon scan of future innovations that have the potential to move this technology beyond the hype.

Clifton Bradeley, the winner several innovation awards for developing techniques and instruments used in clinical biomechanics, will describe to OTF delegates a range of techniques used in a UK practice to assess dysfunction, including a new clinical technique that he developed which uses a Digital Pelvic Inclinometer to quantify pelvic position in the presence of repetitive injury.

Dr Navaporn Chadchavalpanichaya will talk to delegates about her experience in Thailand using Total Contact Insole (TCI) or Total Contact Orthosis (TCO) to relieve pain, prevent further foot deformities and foot ulcers, and so promote healing and increase foot stability.

Delcam’s previous OTF event in Vancouver attracted over 100 delegates.  Blake Bevan from Progressive Step Orthotics attended and said: “I found it very insightful having direct interaction with very intelligent technology companies.  The information presented puts you at the leading edge of existing technology and positions your thinking for what is coming next.”

The theme for this year’s APodC is Regeneration to mark the 50th Anniversary of the conference.
