Broadcom Announces Industry's First Ultra HD Devices with NAGRA NOCS3 Security Certification

Integrates Latest Architecture for Secure Ultra HD Content on Multiple Screens in the Home

LONDON, April 28, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  TV Connect 2015 – Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced that it is the industry's first to receive NAGRA NOCS3 certification for HEVC and Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD) set-top box (STB) systems-on-a-chip (SoCs). The security architecture supports the latest in content protection, ensuring the delivery of premium content and services to multiple TVs and devices in the home. For more news, visit Broadcom's Newsroom.

Broadcom has achieved NAGRA's next-generation security certification on several chips in its HEVC-enabled device portfolio, including the flagship BCM7445 home gateway device, the BCM7366 direct broadcast satellite integrated receiver, and the BCM7252S device. With NAGRA NOCS3 support, Broadcom's STB platforms offer service providers a multi-conditional access (CA) or digital rights management (DRM) environment that enables the delivery of secure premium content and services to multiple screens in the home. Integration of NOCS3 also allows operators to move security constraints from the device to the chipset, reducing the cost and complexity of developing secure STBs. Broadcom will demonstrate its full line of HEVC-enabled SoCs at TV Connect in London, April 28-30, 2015.

"Broadcom first led the Ultra HD market with innovative designs that deliver the 4K experience to viewers worldwide," said Dan Marotta, Broadcom Executive Vice President and General Manager, Broadband & Connectivity Group. "As the first silicon vendor to receive NOCS3 security certification for our portfolio of HEVC-enabled chipsets, Broadcom will continue to work with NAGRA to provide the most advanced level of content protection for the delivery of Ultra HD content."

"NAGRA NOCS3 technology supports our entire range of NAGRA anyCAST CAS and DRM solutions, from our secure embedded client to our connected CAS/DRM client, anyCAST CONNECT," said Maurice van Riek, NAGRA Senior Vice President, Content and Asset Security.  "Broadcom's implementation of NOCS3 will ensure the highest level of security to customers through strict compliance with emerging Ultra HD security requirements."

NAGRA developed NOCS3 to protect service providers' investment in consumer devices. The NAGRA Advanced Security Certification (NASC) ensures security specifications are correctly implemented on consumer devices such as set-top boxes. Both NASC and the underlying NOCS are supported by content owners as key elements of securing their content on service provider networks. NOCS is used both by NAGRA's conditional access system (NAGRA anyCAST) and NAGRA's digital right management system (NAGRA anyCAST PRM) to provide an underlying "hardware root-of-trust" that underpins the security of these solutions.
