Trimble Expands Storage Tank Inspection and Pipeline Measurement Portfolio for Geospatial Professionals in Oil and Gas

New Integrated Scanning Technology for Storage Tanks and Pipeline Analysis and Modeling Solutions Enables Increased Productivity

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 23, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today an expanded geospatial portfolio that extends operational efficiency and improves workflows for oil and gas companies. The portfolio includes new laser scanning instrument features, an enhanced automated storage tank inspection solution as well as an advanced pipeline data collection and analysis software functionality. The new capabilities address several challenges the oil and gas industry is currently facing and can reduce project durations and expenditures.

"The use of geospatial solutions that provide valuable data within the oil and gas industry continues to grow, and today's new workflow enhancements provide new efficiencies and productivity for both field and office operations," said Benoit Mallen, business area manager of Oil and Gas for Trimble's Geospatial Division. "These customized solutions offer the geospatial professional a quicker path to deliver valuable information that oil and gas companies can use to make decisions about their business."

Trimble's enhanced solutions for oil and gas industry applications include:

Tank Inspection – Accelerating Accuracy to Increase Productivity

To ensure clients obtain the most accurate representation of their tank assets, tank inspectors, surveyors and service providers are using 3D laser scanning technologies to quickly capture and generate high-quality asset information. Trimble has enhanced its tank inspection solution with updates to the Trimble® TX8 3D laser scanner and an enhanced workflow in the Trimble RealWorks® software, which can increase productivity and reduce costs.

The Trimble TX8 3D laser scanner delivers the accuracy, point density and scanning range oil and gas professionals need to reliably capture data in demanding work environments. Enhanced, extended-range functionality streamlines the traditional two-stage scanning workflow into a single, faster operation to collect more data with fewer instrument setups. The TX8 also has a new high-quality scanning mode that provides data accurate to 1mm to support precise tank measurement, facilities rework and fabrication projects. These features, along with several other interface and workflow enhancements, make data capture with the TX8 even more efficient. The Trimble RealWorks Advanced-Tank Edition provides simple guided workflows to perform thorough tank inspections and automatically produce detailed reports according to API 653 Standard guidelines. New automated modeling tools improve tank and facilities operations by producing accurate data to make informed decisions and reduce downtime. The combination of the Trimble TX8 and Trimble RealWorks software can save field and office time, improve worker safety and provide superior deliverables.

Pipeline Measurement – Automated Tasks to Simplify Data Collection

Designed for surveyors working on oil and gas pipeline projects, the Trimble Access™ Pipelines application automates critical tasks and simplifies the collection and integration of specialized pipeline data. New functionality focuses on flexibility and quality assurance in the field, including improved end-user experience and the ability to support new and multiple workflows based on unique and continuously changing project requirements. The software also provides enhanced documentation and reporting capabilities, reducing the time needed to produce final deliverables.

Morris P. Hebert (MPH), Inc., a project management, environmental services, engineering, surveying and GIS firm selected Trimble Access Pipelines module to create efficiencies and allow real-time information and reporting through all stages of a construction project.

Lee Drennan, research and development at Morris P. Hebert (MPH), Inc., said, "We decided to use Trimble Access Pipelines because the module creates efficiencies and allows us to have real-time information and reporting through all stages of the construction process. Where we're seeing the biggest benefit, especially now, is the ability to provide accurate, daily tally information to inspectors and clients in near real time. We are also changing our in-house procedures as a result of the capabilities of the system, because we've learned valuable lessons that will pay off on future jobs. This saves us a lot of time and unnecessary processes, which translates to a reduction in operating costs."
