Philadelphia to Be Host City for BEST5

Apr 16, 2015 -- As the nation’s building enclosure professionals convene this week in Kansas City, Missouri, for the fourth BEST Conference Building Enclosure Science & Technology™ (BEST4), the big announcement to come out of the Conference is the location of its next event, BEST5.

The BEST series brings together building industry professionals to share information on specific performance aspects of building systems designed for high energy efficiency, good indoor climate and long-term performance. BEST combines the expertise of the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) with the outreach efforts of its Building Enclosure Council (BEC) chapter network. The Institute and a select local BEC chapter organize each event.

Earlier this week, the BETEC Board made the big reveal. The decision is based on a number of factors, such as: chapter participation, ease of travel, hotel accommodations and local points of interest. It is an honor for BEC Chapters to host the event.

“The Building Enclosure Council of Philadelphia is extremely excited to showcase Philadelphia as the host city for the BEST5 Conference in 2018,” said BEC-Philadelphia Chair Cheryl Smith. “We welcome the opportunity to build on the research and development of ideas from BEST4, where we explored new and updated methods to improve the energy and sustainability performance of our building envelopes. You are invited to come and see first-hand how our changing city is focused on improving the performance and sustainability of our built environment. Please join us in Philadelphia in 2018, to continue the learning experience and shared knowledge!”

The BEST Conference coordinators alternate the BEST Conference, now on a triennial cycle, with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Whole Buildings Conference and with the National Building Envelope Council of Canada’s Canadian Conference on Building Science and Technology to allow collaboration between the United States and Canadian communities.

Stay tuned in the coming months for announcements on the exact dates of the 2018 event, calls for papers, sponsorship opportunities and more. Learn more about the BEST Conference series.
