HéctorVigliecca’s book on social housing will be launched in Brazil and the United States

17 Mar 2015-- In response to an invitation done by the American Institute of Architects (AIA Orlando) and the University of Florida, the architect and urbanist Héctor Vigliecca will launch his book “The Third Territory – Collective Housing and City” (Vigliecca & Associados). This book is the first one on his main social housing projects and the book release will take place on the 26th of March in Orlando. The book will also be launched in Brazil on the 23rd of Aprilat the Museu da Casa Brasileira, a State of São Paulo Culture Secretary institution, and on the 28th of April at the IAB-RJ (Brazilian Institute of Architects – Rio de Janeiro) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Published in a bilingual version (Portuguese/English), the book was organized and analyzed by Mackenzie and FAAP professor and researcher Lizete Rubano and contains an introduction by FAU-USP professor Luiz Recamán, Ph.D. 

Héctor Vigliecca, known for his innovative way of thinking and developing social housing projects that have become important architectural references, presents his new book accompanied by a lecture in Orlando at the Orange County History Center. Free of charge and open to the public, Lizete Rubano and Luiz Recamánwill also be present at the event. 

Héctor Vigliecca is the co-founder of the architecture office Vigliecca & Associados along with Luciene Quel and together they have established offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. With a career of over 40 years, he develops architectural and urban projects focused on the larger scale. With a wide range of projects, he has developed social housing projects, sports arenas, institutional buildings and cultural centers as well reurbanization and requalification projects of the public domain. Some project highlights include the Parque Novo Santo Amaro V, the Arena Castelão upgrade project (2014 World Cup host stadium), Operação Urbana Mooca-Vila Carioca in São Paulo, the RIO 2016 Deodoro Olympic Park and the Rio de Janeiro National Library Annex in addition to the Morar Carioca and Renova SP social housing programs. 

Nominated to the Mies Van der Rohe prize in 1998 for his Sesc Nova Iguaçu Project in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, he has participated in the 2014 Venice Biennale with two social housing projects. He also developed the Bulevar Artigas Residential Complex in Montevideo in partnership with Arturo Vallaamil, Thomas Sprechmann and Ramiro Bascans, which was part of the exhibit “Latin America in Construction: Architecture 1955-1980” at the MoMA from March 29th to July 19th and is also featured in the book the “The Third Territory -  Collective Housing and City”.
