SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 10, 2015 — Hyve Solutions Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of SYNNEX Corporation (NYSE: SNX) and the only Platinum Open Compute Project (OCP) solutions provider, today announced its strategic relationship with Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), to bring 64-bit ARM-based volume server solutions to market via its AmbientSeries, addressing the hyper-scale cloud and datacenter market as well as one of the industry’s first dual-socket ARMv8 Open Compute platform.
Inspired by OCP, the Hyve Solutions AmbientSeries is a versatile and highly-reliable server designed and engineered for the hyper-scale datacenter. The AmbientSeries is a popular shipping platform optimized for the Cloud, Web2.0, Web Hosting, and other industries. The AmbientSeries platform meets the demands of hyper-scale datacenter environments, providing a system with high-density storage, high performance compute and significant networking bandwidth. ThunderX™ powered AmbientSeries servers with 48 cores, integrated SATAv3, 10/40 GbE connectivity and accelerators for storage, big data, networking and security provide a greater price, performance and power value proposition over alternative solutions.
Hyve Solutions and Cavium are also announcing one of the industry’s first dual socket ARMv8 Open Compute platform. The sled is designed to serve as an Open Compute server and can be connected to OpenVault for additional storage capacity. The ThunderX SoC with 96 cores in a dual socket configuration, 10/40 GbE network IO integration and SATAv3 integration delivers one of the industry’s highest core count, cost-effective and power-efficient OCP server platforms.
The ThunderX product family is Cavium’s 64-bit ARMv8-A server processor for next generation datacenter and cloud applications. With high performance custom cores, single and dual socket configurations, high memory bandwidth, large memory capacity, integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric, ThunderX enables best in class performance per dollar and performance per watt. The ThunderX processor family is fully compliant with ARMv8-A architecture specifications as well as ARM’s SBSA and SBBR standards and is widely supported by industry-leading OS, Hypervisor, software tool and application vendors.
“We are very excited to see the emergence of 64-bit ARM-based solutions within server and storage projects,” said Steve Ichinaga, President, Hyve Solutions Corporation. “Our goal is to incorporate additional unique products, such as ThunderX, to support our growing, diverse customer base.”
“We congratulate Hyve on launching their first ARMv8 based server platforms with ThunderX,” said Gopal Hegde, Vice President and General Manager, Data Center Processor Group, Cavium. “This will drive momentum and further accelerate the deployment of ARM servers in the Cloud Infrastructure. The ThunderX based AmbientSeries servers will deliver best in class ROI for targeted workloads in Cloud Compute, Storage and Big Data markets.”
Prototype platforms enabled by ThunderX are available to view at the Hyve Solutions booth at OCP U.S. Summit 2015 and will soon be available for customer sampling.
