Madison Media Institute Sweeps Category in the Wisconsin Broadcasters Student Awards

MADISON, Wis. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 7, 2015 — On Saturday, March 7, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) announced its award winners for outstanding and exceptional student productions. Competition included entries from universities and colleges throughout the state. Madison Media Institute swept the Long Form Production (TV) Non news category.

In first place, Video and Motion Graphics student Steve Waas won for his short promotional video describing Sustain Dane’s Big Share program. Sustain Dane is a non-profit organization committed to creating sustainable solutions for home, school, business, and municipalities.

The second place winner is titled “Sharing a Blast with Joey Ramirez.” This is a video diary of a combat soldier who lost his legs to an IED in Afghanistan. The judges stated that the emotional segment had “great editing and a moving story.”

Third place goes to the magazine program “Mad About Dane” which covered stories about Dane County and Madison. It was the final project of the Advanced Studio class taught by instructor Ray Ibsen.

Nella Citino, Chair of the Video and Film departments, states, “I am proud of the knowledge and skills of our students. As a program, we have had the ability to attract some incredible talent and challenge them on all levels. This shows in our work and ultimately our recognition and awards.”

In addition to this, Madison Media Institute also won first place in the TV Sports Story with Video and Motion Graphics student Emma Siewert’s piece called “Around the Rim.” And finally, Mihai Cavaliere won second place in the PSA/Commercial category.
