Spirit of Creativity: Art of Patron Bottle Art Competition Spotlights Patron's Iconic Bottle

Artists, Designers and Anyone with a Creative Eye Compete for $10,000 Grand Prize

NEW YORK, March 2, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Toasting to the spirit of creativity and handcrafted arts, The Patron Spirits Company announces today the second edition of the Patron bottle art competition, a component of the recently announced "Art of Patron" brand platform.

From the moment Patron tequila was first introduced, the Patron glass bottle quickly became a symbol of the brand and its premium craftsmanship. It also has inspired artists to transform Patron bottles into handmade visual and functional arts. Recognizing the growing popularity of repurposing Patron bottles, this initiative encourages fans and artisans across the country to share their artistic vision using Patron's signature tequila bottles as inspiration for a chance to win $10,000 and national exposure.

"The Patron bottle itself is truly a work of art. Handcrafted by skilled glass artisans in Jalisco, Mexico, the Patron tequila bottle not only houses the world's highest-quality tequila, but we're proud that over the years consumers have found such artistic inspiration in our design and have created beautiful and unique works of art from empty Patron bottles. The 'Art of Patron' bottle art competition is our way of recognizing, encouraging, and rewarding the ingenuity of artists – professional and amateur alike – who are giving our distinctive handcrafted bottles a second life," said Lee Applbaum, Patron's Global Chief Marketing Officer.

Patron first launched the bottle art competition in 2013. In that first year of the program, hundreds of entries were received – from elaborate chandeliers, to functional furniture, to visually stunning art pieces of all shapes and sizes. The final grand prize that year was awarded to amateur artist Brandon Montgomery of Spring Valley, California, who created a bespoke chess set and table made from 52 Patron bottles, of various sizes, and 16 Patron corks meticulously carved to create the individual chess pieces.

From today through July 17 of this year, Patron fans 21 years and older can visit ArtofPatron.com to learn how they can showcase their original Patron bottle artwork for a chance to win a grand prize of $10,000.

To enter "The Art of Patron" bottle art program, applicants simply need to:

  • Create an original work of art or functional item that contains, is made from, or depicts any Patron bottle or component thereof
  • Visit ArtofPatron.com and follow the links to the Bottle Art entry page
  • Upload a photo and a short essay (100 words or less) describing the artwork and the inspiration behind the piece
  • Note that no purchase is required, and for more information and to read the official rules, please visit ArtofPatron.com

A panel of judges will select up to 10 finalists based on overall creativity, unique use or representation of the Patron bottle, visual appeal, and the persuasiveness of the essay. Finalists will be featured on the Art of Patron website for public voting to help select one lucky participant to be the Grand Prize winner. The winner will be awarded $10,000 and an opportunity for national exposure for their work of art. The remaining nine finalists will each receive $1,000.
