The new software, the "Asterion Multimedia Framework," can store media files in a radically new way that tucks them deep into a database without any connection to insecure and easily searched computer file systems. The result is the framework improves multimedia workflow and increases security. The Asterion Multimedia Framework can store, stream, transcode, perform workflow operations, edit and render content, as well as all other media operations, securely to-and-from a database. Storing assets in the database ensures relational integrity and makes it nearly impossible for authorized users to misplace media.
Asterion's founder and Chief Technical Officer Steve Guilford invented the award winning database plug-in technology that lies at the heart of the framework and is hopeful it will help in the fight against malevolent hackers: "This makes it impossible for someone inside a company to troll through a file system looking for valuable media. There is only one 'vector' in and out of the database. Nobody has ever done this before. I think this is a game changing way to handle multimedia and unstructured data in general."
The Asterion Multimedia Framework has already been configured for several open source programs such as video editor Kdenlive, audio editor Audacity as well as the FFMpeg multimedia toolkit. The techniques and patterns used to integrate these applications can be easily and quickly applied to other programs.
The framework is now available for licensing from Asterion Multimedia. A proof-of-concept demonstration can be accomplished within days and a complete retrofit of very large, studio scale systems can be achieved in a few months. Organizations, under constant and growing risk from hackers can leverage this innovation and its enhanced asset security features with a quick turnaround.
