State Museum to Host Free Day, Friday, Feb. 13, Invites Public to Visit Special Exhibit of Iconic Pennsylvania Art and Artists

Exhibit Features 55 Works from 40 Institutions

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 2, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — The State Museum of Pennsylvania today announced a free admission day on Friday, Feb. 13.  Museum visitors will have the chance to view the special "Inaugural Exhibit of Pennsylvania Arts."  This exhibit, inspired by Gov. Tom Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf's love of art and culture, brings together the best of Pennsylvania art and artists, both iconic and contemporary.

The "Inaugural Exhibit of Pennsylvania Arts" features 55 works from 40 institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes Foundation, The Andy Warhol Museum, The Brandywine River Museum, The Carnegie Museum of Art, The State Museum and other institutions from across the commonwealth.

Assembled by the Wolf Inaugural Committee with assistance from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts and The State Museum, this exhibit showcases iconic Pennsylvania artists such as NC and Andrew Wyeth, Andy Warhol, Thomas Eakins, Charles Demuth, Horace Pippin and Benjamin West as well as contemporary masters including Joe Farrell, Daniel Ricardo Teran and Catherine Prescott.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see such a collection here at The State Museum. At noon, as part of The State Museum's continuing Learn@Lunchtime program, museum curators Carol Buck and Amy Hammond will answer questions about the exhibition.

The exhibit runs through Sunday, Feb. 15.

The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 25 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®. The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting Pennsylvania's fascinating heritage. With more than 100,000 square feet of permanent and changing exhibits examining the dawn of geologic time, the Native American experience, the colonial and revolutionary era, a pivotal Civil War battleground, and the commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America's story.

Museum hours are Wed. through Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sun., noon to 5 p.m.  Admission is $7 for adults (ages 12-64), $6 for senior citizens (ages 65 and up), and $5 for children (ages 1-11).
