1Spatial Delivers Ordnance Survey Ireland Data Platform for Growth

CAMBRIDGE, England — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 8, 20151Spatial, the spatial big data company, has deployed its 1Spatial Management Suite (1SMS) at Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) to populate and manage the organisation’s new real-world object database, PRIME2. Activities that would typically have taken weeks in the past, can now be done in just days.

OSi has seen a steady increase in demand for reliable spatial data to inform decision-making within government bodies. The organisation used 1Spatial Management Suite to move from managing cartographic content to running a real-world, object-oriented data model; a digital representation of the landscape made-up of over 50 million individual objects, each with its own Globally Unique Identifier (GUID).

Colin Bray, CEO OSi , commented “OSi is the custodian of the digital geographic record for the state. We’re one of the most advanced mapping agencies in the world and take pride in the quality and consistency of our information. This move to a real-word, features-based database has been one of the largest innovations we’ve undertaken”. He continued “1Spatial has a deep understanding of the complexity of our legacy data. In partnership, we’ve strived to make important innovations such as the new data model and new workflow management systems that enable us to effectively and efficiently update our database.”

To manage PRIME2, OSi deployed 1SMS and now use this rules-based automation platform to ensure their data is safe, accurate and always in a validated and publishable state. The system utilises an efficient, optimistic locking process, whereby only the data required for a job is extracted and only the changes recorded are updated in the master database. This approach allows multiple concurrent jobs to be and if a conflict is detected between jobs the system either automatically resolves that conflict, or dispatches a conflict resolution job to a specialist user. In this way 1SMS delivers maximum productivity while ensuring the quality and core integrity of the data is maintained.

Marcus Hanke, Chief Executive of 1Spatial explains “the effective population and management of PRIME2 gives OSi the capability to maintain their entire national spatial database and be confident in the quality of the data. OSi’s accurate data gives Ireland a national framework, which underpins efficient government and economic development in the country. The technology also integrates seamlessly with existing OSi systems and will enable government departments and agencies to integrate their data”.
