Arup Implements Civil BIM Methodology for Campus Projects in Qatar

BIM methodologies have become commonplace in most industries but are still new and largely not accepted as standard practice in transportation. Arup’s Madrid office utilized BIM for its USD 30 million transportation projects in Doha, Qatar. This process improvement has resulted in significant cost and time savings.

“Arup has already produced the first projects using Civil BIM strategy, saving 30 percent of costs,” said Oscar Julián, BIM manager infrastructure department, Arup.

The use of BIM has provided Arup Madrid with integrated project delivery, improving project performance, while reducing costs and delivery times. Arup uses Bentley software to design 90 percent of its installations:  AECOsim Building Designer for structures, buildings, and utilities; InRoads for road design; and SewerCAD and WaterCAD for water networks.
