ASC's Peregrine 3D Flash LIDAR Vision System™ Named as a Prism Award Finalist

SANTA BARBARA, CA, Dec. 10, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — Advanced Scientific Concepts Inc. (ASC), the leading supplier of 3D Flash LIDAR Cameras for terrestrial, aerial and space applications, announces the Peregrine 3D Flash LIDAR Vision System, as one of three finalists for the Prism Award for Photonics Innovation in the category of Imaging + Cameras.  The Prism Award is an international competition that honors the newest and best photonic based products available to the market.

The small form-factor Peregrine is the first 3D Flash LIDAR time-of-flight camera weighing less than 1.5 lbs.  Peregrines can synchronously capture 3D data from one to eight 3D cameras; synchronize data from an equal number of co-aligned 2D cameras and a GPS/INS unit up to 30 frames per second.  The Peregrines generate point cloud data on-the-fly, enabling manned or autonomous aerial and ground operations not possible with 2D or scanning 3D systems and can be used outdoors, operating in direct sunlight or at night. The Peregrine's single laser pulse per frame illuminates the scene at the speed of light, even in obscure conditions resulting in 3D data without motion blurring.

The annual Prism Award known as the "Photonics Oscar" takes place at SPIE Photonics West.  With numerous applications from over 35 countries, the Finalists and Prism Award are chosen by a panel of judges comprised of leading industry experts, venture capitalists and visionaries.

"We are honored that the Peregrine has been named a Prism Award Finalist," said Roger Stettner, CEO of Advanced Scientific Concepts, Inc.  "Currently, the Peregrine is our lightest camera, enabling unparalleled functionality for autonomous applications where weight and robustness are important.  3D Flash LIDAR technology is unique in the  photonics market place, and  positioned to revolutionize this field."

Prism Award winners will be announced on February 11th, 2015 during a gala at the SPIE Photonics West convention in San Francisco, February 10 - 13th, 2015.
