The Etches Collection at PETEX 2014

Nov 17, 2014 -- The Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB), the organisation dedicated to improving the public’s understanding of the technical benefits of oil and gas exploration, is delighted to support the launch of the Etches Collection by giving PETEX 2014 attendees the chance to meet and question founder, Steve Etches.

Every two years, PETEX brings together oil and gas exploration and production staff from all over the world for a three day conference in London that has grown to be one of the ‘must-attend’ events in the calendar. This year, during the PESGB’s 50th anniversary celebrations, PETEX will be the largest conference and exhibition to date.

Starting at 1.30pm on Tuesday 18th November, Steve Etches will present a fascinating insight in to his unique collection of Kimmeridgian fossils – over two thousand specimens collected over thirty years – as well as the latest news about the exciting development of a permanent home for the exhibition in the small Dorset village that is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Early this year, the Kimmeridge Trust was awarded a £2.7 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant to build the museum that will be a suitable showcase for Steve’s life’s work.  During his informal presentation, Steve will be happy to answer attendee’s questions and continue these discussions on the Trust’s exhibition stand – which will be manned by a fully articulated Ichthyosaur!

Guy Elliott, Executive Director of the PESGB noted; “The PESGB is really proud to be supporting the Kimmeridge Trust by giving them both financial support and now the opportunity for them to showcase the Etches Collection at the PETEX Conference. Steve Etches’ presentation as to how his unique collection was collected and how it has grown over the years, will be a fascinating highlight of the conference schedule.
