Spatial and Machine Research Collaborate to Take 3D Manufacturing to the Cloud

Machine Research selects Spatial for its superior 3D components, as well as growth opportunities delivered through a unique business model

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 13, 2014Spatial Corp., the leading provider of 3D development components for design, manufacturing and engineering solutions, announced today that they have teamed up with Machine Research to develop a new, cloud-based software solution for manufacturing companies. Spatial and Machine Research will partner to deliver secure, ITAR-compliant software that helps manufacturers mine and reuse their existing manufacturing knowledge, thereby increasing efficiency and streamlining workflows.

The combination of a flexible business model and core 3D technology from Spatial gives Machine Research a powerful partner that will help sell its SaaS products to manufacturers and opens new growth opportunities for Spatial’s solutions. By leveraging Spatial’s expertise in 3D software development, application developers from Machine Research can focus their efforts on building innovative software solutions making it easier to share manufacturing knowledge.

"Manufacturers have made smart, strategic investments in software; yet for all the investment, the industry's current way of implementing that software remains fragmented and inefficient. We think there's a better way,” explained Chris Skubic, CEO, Machine Research. “Working closely with Spatial, we're giving manufacturers the tools they need to leverage and reuse their institutional knowledge more efficiently and, ultimately, more profitably."

“Machine Research is doing something really novel and innovative in the industry,” stated Jean-Marc Guillard, CEO, Spatial Corp. “Manufacturers spend a lot of money on software infrastructure, and this solution will enable them to integrate all of their tools more efficiently and profitably in the cloud.”

According to Skubic, the collaboration between the companies is a great fit, because Machine Research is completely aligned with Spatial’s vision of leveraging existing building blocks available in the marketplace. The features Spatial has built in its core 3D CAD technology are extremely difficult and expensive to build from scratch. Working with Spatial, Machine Research is able to give their customers the CAD functionality they need without forcing them to buy a full CAD platform.

“At the end of the day, we’re not a CAD or CAM company. We’re a company whose sole mission is to help today’s manufacturers re-use and transfer their knowledge to future generations and streamline their workflows,” concluded Skubic. “Integrating Spatial’s technology helps us serve our customers better.”

The suite is the first piece in larger push by Machine Research to build a modern platform to help companies get more out of their existing manufacturing knowledge. It leverages Spatial’s 3D InterOp technology to provide data interoperability with CAD translation support for product structure, semantic PMI, geometry, and graphical data. Machine Research will also leverage Spatial’s 3D ACIS Modeler to help application developers more easily manipulate models they receive from designers. The combined companies’ technologies give manufacturers the ability to more efficiently do cloud-based model translation, model healing, and preparation for CAM platforms use.

Availability

The software will be available in Q4 2014.
