Sacramento, California, Selects Accela Civic Platform to Modernize City Operations

Accela Right of Way Management Improves City’s Utility Coordination, Streamlines Permitting Capabilities, Enhances Special Events Planning

SAN RAMON, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 15, 2014 — Accela, the leading provider of civic engagement solutions for government, today announced the City of Sacramento will deploy Accela Right of Way Management on the Civic Platform. Accela will integrate the Right of Way Management solution with the existing Land Management functionality currently in use by the City.

Home to more than 450,000 residents, the City of Sacramento is the capital city of California and the sixth-largest city in the state. Accela Right of Way Management will help the City coordinate all street activities and road construction in the public right of way. Through dynamic map-based coordination solutions delivered via the web, agencies like Sacramento can optimize street performance by having real-time insight into street activities of all kinds, enabling proactive management of utility projects, public works, permitting, incidents, traffic and events. The solution uncovers potential conflicts, identifies new opportunities, improves planning and communication and saves agencies time and money in managing activities in the public right of way, while reducing environmental impact.

With the new Accela solution, the City of Sacramento will benefit from:

Utility Coordination: Map-based capabilities allow municipalities and utilities to coordinate with each other’s projects using factors like Geospatial, Temporal, Types, Statuses and other business data. Utility coordination capabilities include conflict detection, integrated mailbox and communication thread notes, custom attributes, business object behavior/rules and more.

Permit Viewer: Allows for permit viewing from an existing permitting database. By showing permits on a web-based map and allowing departments to see the status of the permit, the capability provides instant location intelligence into the permitting process and automatically identifies conflicts with other work or events. Municipal personnel and utilities can see construction and maintenance projects, moratoriums on digging, special events, and unplanned incidents and emergencies from smartphones and laptops.

Special Events: Allows planning and coordination of all aspects of events, including traffic impacts (road closures, detours, parking restrictions, evacuation routes). Events including parades, marathons, sporting events and block parties can be modeled. Solution automatically maps event locations and related impacts.

“Sacramento is a longstanding Accela customer, and we are delighted to be able to help them coordinate and communicate within the agency and to citizens,” said Maury Blackman, Accela President and CEO. “By taking advantage of the capabilities of the Accela Civic Platform, including Right of Way Management, users within the City and across utilities will gain real-time access to project details from anywhere at any time. This simplifies project management, saves time and money and maximizes value for the City and its citizens.”
