The CADD Microsystems Foundation Hosts Its Inaugural Fundraiser in Support of the Travis Manion Foundation

Donates $11,000 to Support Veterans and Their Families

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 15, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  CADD Microsystems, an Autodesk Platinum Partner, is pleased to announce that its charitable foundation – The CADD Microsystems Foundation - will donate $11,000 to the Travis Manion Foundation as a result of its inaugural Rooftop Happy Hour held on September 25, 2014.

The CADD Microsystems Foundation, established in 2013, hosted its inaugural fundraiser in September, and donates $11,000 to the Travis Manion Foundation.

More than 100 people attended the fundraiser, which featured a live band, heavy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, raffle prizes and a silent auction. The silent auction featured signed local sports memorabilia and tickets, overnight stays at hotels, world-wide vacation rentals, and a signed Roger Staubach football (and much more). All the food for the fundraiser was generously donated by local restaurants – Chili's Grill and Bar, Osteria Marzano, and Walker's Grille. Tom Manion from the Travis Manion Foundation was the special guest for the evening, sharing his story and autographing copies of his new book Brothers Forever, which tells the story of his son Travis and his USNA roommate Brendan Looney. Book sales raised an additional $1,000 for the Travis Manion Foundation.

"Supporting our military has always been a priority for us, and when we were introduced to the  Travis Manion Foundation and the impact it has on veterans and their families, we were immediately drawn to its mission," said Susan Thomson, CFO and board member of the CADD Foundation. "Being able to help raise more than $12,000 for the Travis Manion Foundation through our fundraiser and book sales exceeded our expectations, and motivates us even more to put our Foundation to good use through partnerships like this."

The Travis Manion Foundation story: Shortly after the death of 1st Lt. Travis Manion in Iraq in 2007, the fallen Marine's mother, the late Janet Manion, founded the Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) to assist our nation's veterans and families of the fallen. TMF engages with veterans and families of the fallen in all stages of their personal journeys and offers unique opportunities to empower them to achieve their goals. They believe that the best way to honor the fallen is by challenging the living. TMF challenges veterans and survivors to lead the "If Not Me, Then Who…" movement to inspire others to continue the service to community and country exemplified by the nation's fallen heroes.

"Although the less-than-ideal weather conditions inspired a last-minute change from a "Rooftop" Happy Hour into an indoor one, the rain didn't dampen the generous spirits of our attendees and supporters," said Thomson. "We couldn't be more proud of the success of our first fundraiser, and we know that is due to the generosity of everyone that attended, supported or donated to the cause. We are excited to build an enduring partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation, and explore other ways that the CADD Foundation can benefit our local communities."

The CADD Foundation was established with seed money contributed from both the employees and the owners of CADD Microsystems to facilitate involvement in community service. In its first year, the Foundation worked to raise funds, establish partnerships and benefit local communities around its Alexandria, Richmond and Baltimore offices.

Since its inception in 2013, the CADD Foundation has already made a difference. It has made donations to the Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society, Wesley Housing Development Corporation, the USO, and a local survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing.

It has also collected coats, helped local children with their holiday wish lists, joined forces with the DLT Foundation to donate two car-loads of school supplies to Alternative House, and sent its CEO rappelling down a 25-story office building to raise money.
