Optech announces integrated airborne camera boresight and mobile INS drift control

October 6, 2014 — Optech Incorporated is pleased to announce the release of its Lidar Mapping Suite (LMS) for airborne and mobile workflows, Optech LMS 3.0.

Optech LMS 3.0 represents a major advancement for users of Optech ALTM, Lynx and digital imaging product lines for high-precision surveying applications. For the first time ever, a major sensor manufacturer has incorporated complete camera boresight and calibration capability within the same workflow as that of airborne and mobile lidar. This merging of complementary active and passive imaging technologies is a huge leap forward in processing productivity, with the opportunity to generate truly coincident datasets within a single workflow. Capable of supporting airborne orthometric imaging sensors, LMS 3.0 greatly simplifies the pre-processing and calibration of multi-sensor imaging systems for maximum efficiency and accuracy.

According to Michael Sitar, Optech’s Business Manager for Airborne Mapping Solutions, “airborne imaging and lidar are such synergistic technologies that it is a logical step to incorporate both data types into a single unified interface. This integrated processing approach will yield dividends in processing efficiency and will allow our clients to leverage the best of both technologies and data streams moving forward.”

Also included in the new release are advanced features designed specifically to reduce the cost of mobile surveys in adverse GPS conditions. LMS 3.0 includes the ability to visualize lidar data, interrogate/select control locations and robustly apply automated lidar rectification and boresight algorithms in all survey conditions.

“Inertial drift control and accuracy validation is often the highest cost component of mobile surveying,” said Albert Iavarone, Optech’s Business Manger for Mobile Solutions. “The LMS product line continues to break new barriers and create efficiencies in this area. With the introduction of LMS 3.0, producing and validating survey-grade lidar and camera data is easier and more cost effective than ever before.”

The official release date for Optech LMS 3.0 is scheduled for December 2014. Optech will offer previews of the latest features at the Optech booth (D4.021 in Hall 4.1) during the INTERGEO Conference and Trade Fair in Berlin, Germany on October 7-9.
