“The parks and recreation map tour is informative and an easy-to-use application,” Stafford County GIS Manager Dave Capaz said. “We were able to consolidate our existing in-house detailed downloadable static maps along with Parks and Recreation/Community Facility photos of each park into an immersive user experience. The interactive base map provides a county perspective of where each park is located in relation to one another. All three ‘pieces’ also are synced together.”
Built on the Esri® ArcGIS Online Story Map Tourâ„ platform, Stafford County’s parks and recreation portal features photos, descriptions, and maps that display parks, trails, and amenities. From water resources to a golf course, gymnastics center, and Civil War site, the public can learn about regional history, family activities, and projects moving forward. The Stafford web site also includes a video of the Belmont-Ferry Farm Trail filmed by staff with a GoPro camera.
In addition the Stafford County parks and recreation portal, Dave Gilbert, GISP, a senior project manager with GeoDecisions, is working with the Stafford County GIS Office to launch an economic development application with a similar story map interface.
