July 15, 2014, Toronto, Canada — Optech is pleased to invite the surveying industry to UAV Day, a special open house at Optech’s headquarters in Toronto on July 24 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Visitors will see Optech systems in action while our partner geo-konzept pilots the geo-X8000 UAV. The afternoon includes refreshments and tours through Optech’s new technology archive.

As described in Lidar News earlier this year, the Optech ILRIS long-range terrestrial laser scanner can efficiently collect high-accuracy lidar data of the most critical vertical surfaces of a survey area while the geo-X8000 ultralight UAV captures photogrammetry from above to colorize the point cloud and fill in any shadowed areas and roof tops. Both sensors are light-weight and highly portable, able to access challenging environments. This innovative sensor fusion solution boosts efficiency by spending less time surveying, and protects your investment by keeping the high-value ILRIS on the ground, while the low-cost geo-X8000 takes to the skies.

Visitors will experience a live demonstration as geo-konzept pilots the geo-X8000 right from the Optech parking lot to survey nearby construction sites, and Optech personnel perform simultaneous surveys at ranges of 3 km and beyond with the ILRIS. Attendees are also welcome to join Optech engineers in a Lynx Mobile Mapper survey while they collect detailed and accurate 3D data in real time, then have a look at its new compact mounting system and camera integration. Afterwards, tea, coffee and snacks will be served in Optech’s facilities, where visitors can look through our technology archive. Created to celebrate Optech’s 40^th anniversary last month, the archive houses sensors and photographs showcasing our long heritage of lidar innovation.
