Ixia enters the automotive Ethernet market with a new AUTOSAR standards compliant test solution
CALABASAS, CA — July 2, 2014 - Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA) announced today that it has introduced a new AUTOSAR standards compliant suite to test in-vehicle Infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems for the connected car. Ixia’s IxANVL (Automated Network Validation Library) Automotive Conformance and Interoperability test solution leverages Ixia’s deep knowledge of testing IP/Ethernet systems to help drive the evolution of the rapidly growing automotive Ethernet market.
The need for automotive Ethernet is increasing as infotainment and ADAS systems make a huge impact on the car passenger experience. As these systems become more prevalent, standards will be necessary to ensure the performance and safety of the entire vehicle, and Ixia’s test solutions help ensure these standards are met by the automotive manufacturers.
The automotive industry has effectively agreed upon AUTOSAR, an open and standardized automotive software architecture that was jointly developed by automobile manufacturers, suppliers and tool developers, as the standard for automotive software and network infrastructures. AUTOSAR has defined support for Ethernet and TCP/IP for communications between ECUs in vehicles, and Ixia recently joined AUTOSAR and is committed to help shape network testing in the automotive industry as it moves forward.
News highlights
As the connected car progresses, testing will need to be done at different levels, starting with unit tests for software and hardware components. While the introduction of automotive Ethernet and IP based devices and systems bring new challenges for testing and verification, automotive manufacturers, including member companies of AUTOSAR such as BMW, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen, can leverage this technology to innovate and deploy future in-car applications with the highest quality.
IxANVL leverages 20+ years of experience in the IT and telecom domains as well as familiarity working with car manufacturers to provide the test methodologies required for comprehensive automotive Ethernet testing with features including:
- Compliance test suite for AUTOSAR specifications and standard
- Support for the IEEE standard based GENIVI stack interoperability
- Test capability for UDP and TCP over both IPv4 and IPv6
- Wide protocol coverage with hundreds of automated tests
- Easy-to-use interface with powerful correlation and analysis.
Industry commentary
“Automotive manufacturers and suppliers continue to adopt the AUTOSAR standard, and it’s imperative that extensions like Ethernet meet this standard as the performance and safety of the car depends on it,” said Dr. Michael Ziehensack, Senior Manager Car Infrastructure Software at Elektrobit (EB). “We are using Ixia´s IxANVL for testing of our Ethernet tools and software, as it considerably helps us to achieve standard-compliant solutions for the next generation of electronic control units.”
“With each feature in today’s new cars, the networked components powering the vehicles become more complex. This makes accurate, repeatable testing to validate protocol compliance, interoperability and robustness of the embedded system stacks and applications a critical step for developers and manufacturers,” said Jim Smith, Vice President of Wireline Solutions Marketing at Ixia. “Ixia is uniquely positioned to leverage our expertise and innovation in Ethernet to support the AUTOSAR standard and the development of the networked vehicle.”
