FEA-Opt Technology Releases SmartDO 6.0, with Multi-Thread Computing, Objective Oriented Programming for Scripting, Multi-Layer Optimization and SmartPET

FEA-Opt Technology Announces The Release of SmartDO 6.0

May 15, 2014 -- FEA-Opt Technology, the maker SmartDO - A Smart Design Optimization System, today  announces the release of SmartDO 6.0, which continues to improve its computational efficiency, reliability and flexibly user interface in this version.

Multi-Thread Computing
Most of the design optimization tasks will call external CAE packages to evaluate the proposed design. Although parallel computing is almost a standard functionality for most packages, sometimes multi-threading computing can more efficient.

Instead of disassembling the state equation of one single model into parallel computing, multi-thread computing dispatch different models into independently thread in parallel. This can sometimes achieve linear acceleration. It is also possible to use multi-thread mechanism to call external programs on different computer, which will make the collaboration of different disciplines even more feasible.

Objective Oriented Programming
SmartDO 6.0 supports the objective oriented programming for Tcl/Tk 8.6. With the capability of objective oriented programming, it is easier for the user to build up customized scripts with large scale. Maintenance of these customization will also be more efficient.

Improved SmarkLink Interface for ANSYS Workbench
The SmartLink in SmartDO has been a very popular
modules since it was introduced in version 4.0. In this version, the user interface are further improved. Now the user can see the Parameters ID as well as the Parameters Name altogether inside SmartDO from ANSYS Workbench. This makes the design variables linking even more straightforward.

Multi-Layer Optimization
The multi-layer optimization inside SmartDO makes it possible to solver difficult problems, like saddle points, or min-max problem. With this functionality, the user can also perform operation like "optimization inside an optimization problem" or "calling SmartDO inside SmartDO".

Accelerated Local Optimizer
Sometimes it is desirable to get a local optimum as soon as possible. Or, sometimes the model is already to have only one local optimum. In these situations, using a fast and accurate local optimizer can be a feasible choice. SmartDO 6.0 adds a accelerated local optimizer, with design domain and variables automatically normalized. This provides the user a stable and efficient option for fast estimate and solution.

SmartPET Linking File
The SmartPET (Smart Preprocessor for Embedded Tcl/Tk) provide a convenient mechanism for user to link SmartDO with any external packages for design variables linking. What is more powerful, is SmartPET allows the user to embed tcl/tk-like scripting capability into any text file, for external packages that does not have Tcl/Tk inside. SmartPET works similar to the compiler preprocessor and macro definition in other programming language. It is like embedding Tcl/Tk into any third party text input file, which is much more powerful and flexible than conventional template file approach.
