Transmap Corporation Presents Pavement Condition Findings, Helps Hollywood Prepare Budgets

April 28, 2014 -- Hollywood, FL Transmap Corporation has successfully inventoried 360 centerline miles of roadway in the City of Hollywood with their ON-SIGHT™ mobile mapping vehicle to determine the City’s Pavement Condition Index.  Transmap is a national provider of professional, technical, and management support services to the transportation industry that specializes in the mobile data collection, processing, and inventory of roadway assets.

The City of Hollywood is a beachfront community located in Broward County midway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.  This City hosts over 140,000 residents and is home to more than 60 parks, seven miles of pristine beaches, and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, which stretches 2.5 miles along the Atlantic Ocean.

Transmap used their Ultra HD imaging system, ground-based LiDAR, real photogrammetric measurements, and walk-out quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) to gather pavement analysis data that was formatted and loaded into MicroPAVER to produce PCI values.  These values were key in preparing budgets for the City of Hollywood and were presented by Transmap at a City Council meeting.  Transmap inventoried and assessed sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and performed rutting and ride processing for the City.  They set up an ArcGIS Online site with all images and distress data loaded, so the City of Hollywood could view their data in a cloud environment.

Terrence Comiskey, Senior Project Manager for the City of Hollywood, shared his views on the information received.  “Transmap Corporation was able to provide state-of-the-art technology to map the existing conditions on our roadways and to survey our existing sidewalk network,” he said.  “This information was crucial in helping the City of Hollywood develop a Pavement Management Plan.”

At the City Council meeting, Transmap discussed their findings and provided valuable information involving budget scenarios and pavement improvement.  After reviewing all streets, alleys, and sidewalks, Transmap established a 5-year network level pavement plan to ensure the City had proper funds to keep roads at or above current condition levels.  Transmap, along with the American Public Works Association (APWA), trained the City on the use of MicroPAVER.

The total value of of Hollywood’s pavement network equals $581M, and it would cost a total of $57.8M to fix all recorded distress.  “By presenting our findings in person at Hollywood’s City Council meeting, Transmap has provided a truly beneficial environment conducive to thoughtful ideas, involving detailed data that will guide the City in its reconstruction,” explains Transmap’s President Howard Luxhoj, PE.  With Transmap’s assistance, the City of Hollywood is ready to begin improving the quality of their roads and sidewalks, and now has the training and information needed to do so.
