USGIF Adds National Security Workshop to GEOINT 2013* Agenda

Full Day of Speakers from Public Safety and National Security Communities

Herndon, Virginia (March 20, 2014) — The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) announces the addition of a National Security Workshop to the GEOINT 2013* Symposium agenda. The workshop will be held Tuesday, April 15, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel.

The National Security Workshop will outline how GEOINT enables critical infrastructure protection and shared situational awareness for multi-agency national security missions, including how government, first responders, and the private sector can benefitfrom geospatial applications.

The workshop agenda (subject to change) includes a wide variety of prominent figures from the public safety and national security communities:

  • 1330-1340 – Welcome & Introduction: Maj. Gen. William N. Reddel III, Adjutant General, New Hampshire
  • 1340-1410 – Keynote: "Geospatial Transformation" by Jack Dangermond, President, Esri
  • 1410-1440 – Demo: "Virtual Port, the Port of Long Beach" by Ed Carubis, Esri& Carl Walter, Esri
  • 1440-1500 –"Securing the Super Bowl" by Capt. Steve Pollackov, Commanding Officer, GIS Unit, Fire Department City of New York
  • 1500-1520 – "Tampa RNC 2012—Benefits of Common Geo Foundation Data" by Dr. Robert Austin, Manager, Enterprise Applications Integration, City of Tampa 
  • 1520-1545 – Networking Break
  • 1545-1610 – "The Exemplar City" by City of Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle
  • 1610-1630 – “Geospatial Policy for Firefighter Safety” by E. Thomas Hicks IV Chief Programs Officer and Assistant Executive Director, International Association of Fire Chiefs
  • 1630-1700 – "DHS, Geo Information Infrastructure & HIFLD" by David Alexander, Director of the Geospatial Management Office, Department of Homeland Security (Invited)

The workshop will conclude with an open panel discussion and audience participation.

Attendees must be registered for the GEOINT Symposium and RSVP to attend this workshop. There is no additional cost to attend the workshop for those with Full Symposium registration or a One-Day Expo-Only Pass for Tuesday, April 15.
