The global optical transceiver market is set to grow strongly over the next five years to $5.1bn in 2017, from $3.4bn in 2012.(1) Loi Nguyen, vice president, Optical Interconnect at Inphi, commented, "Our newest amplifier is a critical milestone in that it will enable the widespread deployment of 100G coherent long haul technology in the higher volume, more cost sensitive Metro market. As the demand for more bandwidth and higher speed transmission increases, it is innovations such as these that make the next-generation of our data networks possible. Our customers can count on Inphi to keep leading these innovations."
The IN3252TA will serve as a critical component in the deployment of 100Gbps links in the Metro network between Cloud 2.0 datacenters and from datacenters to the Core networks. It will support traditional 100Gbps metro network architectures, as well as "dark" unamplified fibers that are already in the ground, but not "lit". The IN3252TA amplifier is a critical technology for dark fiber applications because the higher gain enables higher sensitivity and longer reaches without the need for expensive and labor-intensive installation of the in-line optical fiber amplifiers.
The IN3252TA will also serve as a key technology of that enables the deployment of lower cost, lower power consumption, small form-factor, pluggable CFP and CFP2 modules. The higher gain of the IN3252TA enables lower local oscillator laser power and reduces over all module power consumption making it possible to fit the 100G coherent technology in the CFP and CFP2 form factors.
