USGIF M&S Working Group and OGC to Host Demonstration at I/ITSEC

Open Standards Enable Interoperability Between GEOINT and M&S Systems

Herndon, Virginia (Dec. 3, 2013)—The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s (USGIF) Modeling and Simulation Working Group and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)will tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 4,hosta demonstration of new standards developments that provide the capability to rapidly discover, transform, and stream geospatial data from the Internet into modeling and simulation (M&S) applications.

The demonstrationwill be part of the 2013 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC)in Orlando, Fla., and is open to all conference attendees. The demonstration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. EST in the Warfighter Corner, Booth #2781, in the South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center.

“As computers get faster and there gets to be more and more data, the possibilities that present themselves by allowing GEOINT and M&S to interact even more fully are tremendous,” said Dan Maxwell, co-chair of the USGIF M&S Working Group.

The demonstration will feature two hypothetical scenarios—a military rescue operation against terrorists in Yemen and civilian oil spill response activity in Hawaii. Attendees will learn how open standards enable direct flow of real-world maps, Earth images, sensor data, ocean data, weather data, etc., into M&S applications, as well as direct flow of M&S-generated data to other applications.Demonstrationattendees will also have the opportunity to meet the developers and areeligible to enter a drawing for a Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

USGIF Member CompaniesCACI, CAE, Compusult, DigitalGlobe, Envitia and exactEarth all contributed data, hardware, models, and simulation applications for this demonstration. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System and VT MAKalso helped make the demonstration possible.

Additional information will be available at the USGIF M&S Working Group exhibit, Booth #2392, on the I/ITSEC show floor.USGIF and OGC also invite I/ITSEC attendees to a paneldiscussion on geospatial environment database standards, which will feature many demonstration participants. The panel discussion will be held Friday, Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST in Room S320GH in the South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center.

About USGIF

USGIF is a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to promoting the geospatial intelligence tradecraft and developing a stronger GEOINT Community with government, industry, academia, professional organizations and individuals whose mission is the development and application of geospatial intelligence to address national security challenges. USGIF’s mission is to build the community, advance the tradecraft and accelerate innovation. For more information, please visitwww.USGIF.org.

About OGC

OGC is an international consortium of more than 480 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
