Eugene Lemay, Founder Of Mana Contemporary, Named One Of The Art World's Most Influential Figures For 2013

NEW YORK, Nov. 26, 2013 — (PRNewswire) — Mana Contemporary founder and executive director Eugene Lemay is recognized by Art + Auction in its 2013 Power 100 list of art world standouts.

Lemay is highlighted as a "Power Player" in the December issue, alongside luminaries such as Guggenheim Museum director Richard Armstrong, artist Jeff Koons, LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault, and Artsy's Carter Cleveland and Sebastian Cwilich. The list, published by New York-based Louise Blouin Media, was selected by a jury of art world insiders including art advisor and author Josh Baer, publicist Nadine Johnson, Bloomberg News journalist Scott Reyburn, and Benjamin Genocchio, editor in chief of Art + Auction.

Since opening its doors in May of 2011 in Jersey City, Mana Contemporary has swiftly risen to prominence as an art destination and artist community. The nearly 2 million-square-foot former industrial complex, "big enough to be a self-sustaining artist settlement," the magazine said, has been transformed by Lemay and his team into a "contemporary art hub ... and the project seems poised to grow even bigger."

Indeed, with more than 80 light-filled studios occupied by artists of diverse disciplines, eight galleries devoted to international collections and outstanding artists, a sculpture garden, a performance theater, and a 50,000-square-foot large-scale exhibition hall, Mana Contemporary is rapidly expanding. At the same time, the center offers a world-class array of art services such as framing, crating, and collection management. A second location opened in Chicago in September of 2013, and plans for 2014 include the opening of the Richard Meier Model Museum, photography and video animation centers, and a London outpost.

Lemay envisioned Mana Contemporary to cultivate an interactive and enriching community of artists, art collectors, and institutions. Lemay, who has built several companies in the past 20 years, is a self-taught artist and is best known for his series of abstracted photographs, Navigator, which exposes the root of written language as a metaphor for the human need to communicate. Lemay has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe and Israel.
