Eaton Experts to Speak on Energy Efficient Innovations in Lighting, Data Systems and Vehicles at VERGE San Francisco

CLEVELAND, October 15, 2013 … Three experts from power management company Eaton will participate in panels discussing technology and energy saving innovations in lighting, data systems and vehicles at VERGE San Francisco, October 14 to 17.

VERGE San Francisco brings together innovators, entrepreneurs and leading public officials to explore the opportunities for efficiencies created through technology advancements in energy, buildings and transportation. VERGE is produced by the GreenBiz Group, a business information resource focused on helping companies of all sizes and sectors integrate environmental responsibility into their operations in a manner that supports profitable business practices.

Experts participating from Eaton are:
  • Bob Smith, director, energy marketing solutions, will speak on the panel “Overcoming Challenges in Net Zero Energy Retrofits” on October 16. Smith will discuss how lighting is fundamental to zero net energy and offers additional solutions to maintain a zero net energy status. In U.S. commercial buildings, 40 percent of energy density is consumed by lighting, offering the No. 1 opportunity to save energy in existing buildings compared to improvements in ventilation and cooling.
  • Dr. Mihai Dorobantu, Ph.D., director, vehicle technologies and innovation, will speak on the panel “Autonomous Trucking: The Practicality of Disruptive Tech in Freight Efficiency” on October 17. Dorobantu will discuss look-ahead systems as a first step towards autonomous vehicles, synthesizing information from sources such as radar, traffic signals and GPS. For commercial vehicles, intelligent vehicle automation can improve fuel economy, safety and productivity; early tests of look-ahead technologies estimate improved fuel efficiency of 5 percent.
  • Robert Austin, west regional operations manager for Eaton Energy Solutions, will speak on the panel “Using Big Data for End-to-End Energy Management Across Portfolios” on October 17. Austin will discuss how automated technology can be used to analyze and diagnose large streams of data, presenting an opportunity to reduce facility energy and maintenance costs by 20 percent or more.
