U-Shin integrates new division with OpenDESC.com from PROSTEP

Darmstadt, Germany, October 10, 2013 – The Japanese U-Shin group, the global leader in vehicle locking and access mechanisms, integrated a new division with OpenDESC.com from PROSTEP – over a single weekend.

The U-Shin Group was founded in 1926 and in May 2013 acquired Valeo's Comfort Access Mechanism (CAM) business division. This makes the U-Shin Group the global leader in vehicle locking and access mechanisms. U-Shin has business sites in 15 countries and approximately 8,000 employees worldwide.

U-Shin wanted to retain the working environment familiar to its 4,500 new employees, who are distributed across 12 sites worldwide, even after the takeover to ensure a smooth transition. To do this, the working environment was reproduced to the greatest extent possible in OpenDESC.com. Top priority for U-Shin during the changeover was the smooth and fast exchange of data so that its day-to-day business would not be compromised.

With the data exchange platform OpenDESC.com and experienced experts from PROSTEP, the changeover was performed within it very short time span. During the preparatory phase, OpenDESC.com was installed at 8 of the 12 sites; several key users received intensive training so that they could pass on what they had learned; and several hundred OEMs and suppliers were integrated directly in OpenDESC.com.

The actual changeover was performed over just a single weekend: On Friday, the existing system was being used and on Monday the new system was in full operation. The use of OpenDESC.com meant that neither the employees nor customers felt any noticeable effects from the changeover.

U-Shin is highly satisfied with PROSTEP's professional implementation of this demanding project and is giving thought to having PROSTEP take care of other data exchange tasks.
