Events will be held parallel to MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica, the largest and most important conference and trade fair in Latin America
Curitiba, September 24, 2013 -MundoGEO is finishing the design of a marathon of development using geospatial data, that will be held from May 7 thru 9. This event will take place parallel to the 4th edition of MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica 2014 - Conference and Trade Fair on Geomatics and Geospatial Solutions (
http://mundogeoconnect.com/2014/) - and will offer special spaces for prominent young talents and their mentors.
GEO Hackathon will feature challenges proposed by the public sector and make available the data, software, support and infrastructure in order to support solutions development. The winners will be awarded and will have their work widely disseminated.
MundoGEO is also preparing the
GEO Academy - to be held at the same time and location - an innovative space for scientific research propagation based on the market needs. This meeting will have a different model from the traditional academic ones, which are usually based on fixed poster sessions and long presentations. Based on community feedback, this new event will feature applied research presentations of 10 minutes, called GEO Talks. These lectures will be held in an arena specially built for this purpose, in addition to the “e-Posters” - digital screens for results presentations.
Both GEO Hackathon and GEO Academy will take place at Frei Caneca Convention Center, the same place of MundoGEO#Connect 2014. By a simple displacement using the elevator or the stairs, producers and users of geospatial information will be in touch with researchers, students, developers, entrepreneurs and young talents, in order to seek solutions for today's issues and to better prepare the professionals of the future.
These two projects will have universities, companies, public and non-governmental institutions support, and the participants of both - the academic research and the marathon projects - will be free to propose solutions using any kind of tool and also free or commercial data.
