CAD Certification Continues to Gain Momentum with 10% Rise in Candidates

Number of Autodesk Authorized Training Centers increases by 20% to meet demand

The number of US and Canadian professionals seeking certification in the use of Autodesk software has risen by 10% last year as employers and employees recognize the benefits of validating skills. There are now 14,181 architects, designers, engineers and CAD professionals certified across North America; 60% increase since 2010.

“Globalization and the increasing competitiveness of the job market are driving the need for a universal standard to demonstrate skills levels,” says Julie Gaudet, Senior Director, Customer Operations of Gilmore Global Logistics Services, Inc, worldwide distributor for Autodesk training and course materials. “Also, businesses need to maximize their investment in new software. Training and certification help ensure best practice which in turn helps accelerate productivity and encourage higher quality design.”

To meet this growing demand, there are now 231 Autodesk Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) across North America and 615 authorized training instructors; 18% more than 3 years ago.

“Our well-qualified instructors have played a key role in the rising popularity of certification,” continues Gaudet. “They are trained to a high level, not just in technical knowledge, but also in teaching skills and different learning styles.”

Rick Feineis Chair of Autodesk’s North American ATC Leadership Council and Owner of CAD Training Online, agrees that it’s not just individuals who benefit from certification. “Employers are seeing that training and certification help enhance motivation and professionalism. Encouraging lifelong learning means that employees keep up-to-date with new ideas and working
methods – and on a practical level, can use the latest software versions.”

“The world of designers in any sector has been transformed by digitization,” says Norman Buckberry, Senior Manager, Post-Secondary Programs. “The software and working methods are evolving rapidly – for example, digital prototyping in manufacturing design is fast eliminating the need for physical prototypes and building information modeling (BIM) is radically changing the
way buildings are designed and tested. Certification enables employers and employees to demonstrate that they are totally abreast of these current developments.”

The popularity of certification among civil engineers looks set to rise further with a series of Roads and Highways events, dedicated to training and certification in Autodesk Civil 3D, taking place across North America in September and October 2013.
